Dear Westminster Classmates,

I am pleased to write you today as one of your class officers. I, along with Aaron Kaplan, will be serving our class and the school in the capacity of class liaisons and organizers. We hope this email finds you well and that you are as glad to receive news of Westminster as we are to bring it to you.

I was fortunate to be able to go to Commencement this year in the Princeton Chapel. The ceremony was quite moving and featured Dr. Flummerfelt giving the Charge to the seniors and conducting the entire congregation in a performance of the Lutkin Benediction. The address by internationally renowned speaker Peter Gomes (Harvard's Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister at Harvard's Memorial Church) was also quite memorable.

During the commencement weekend I got a chance to meet Westminster's new Director of Annual Giving, Chris Feltham. You will be pleased to know that he is someone who is very capable and committed to working for Westminster's future. In addition, Chris is very personable and I'm sure he would be happy to speak with you if you have any questions. ( cfeltham@rider.edu )

During the welcoming reception, I also had a chance to meet Rider's new president, Mordechai Rozanski. Dr. Rozanski has begun a comprehensive Stragetic Planning Process for both the Westminster and Lawrenceville campuses and is well aware of the needs for maintenance and improvements to the buildings and grounds at Westminster.

A large part of our writing to you is to request contributions towards the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund supports the essential operations of the school and is central to Westminster's ongoing success. At this point, our class (with a handful of notable exceptions) does not have a stellar giving record (3.5%!), but I am trusting that this has more to do with the fact that we as a class have never been overtly asked before now. It is with this trust that I will not spend more time explaining the need for support. I will, however, note that you should not be shy about giving a "small" amount. As Westminster makes its case for grants and backing, it is important that they be able to show that the alumni of the school support its ongoing mission. The easiest way for them to do that is by pointing out how many Westminster alumni make gifts (not necessarily how much they give). As class officers, Aaron and I hope to serve as a central point for distributing quarterly Class Notes to everyone. Your contribution could be simply: "I'm living in Albuquerque and doing fine" or perhaps: "Come see my concert in New York on such and such a date." In any case, feel free to respond to this email with any notes that you might have and we will compile them and send them out on July 1. Along with the fall Notes, we'll send out some dates from the 2004-2005 Symphonic Choir schedule and choir tours in case you are interested in trying to catch some concerts in your area.

We hope you will consider making a gift (of any size) and look forward to hearing whatever news you have to share,

Thanks,

Greg Brown ( email ) and Aaron Kaplan ( email )
